Exhibition of Monotypes by Yulian Yakovyna

Yesterday, our gallery opened the exhibition “Cinematographic Allusions” by Yulian Yakovyna. This is a commemorative exhibition dedicated to the memory of the artist, who passed away last year.

Yulian Yakovyna was a cinematographer, director, member of the Coordination Council of the Ukrainian National Filmmakers’ Union, author of documentary films, photographer, and collector.

At the heart of the exhibition are monotypes created by the artist in the 2000s. His works are distinguished by their lightness, spontaneity, and effortless flow — emerging as a “vortex in the space of the Universe,” both deeply emotional and meticulously detailed. The artist followed the credo “The meaning lies in the details,” striving to make the unseen visible to others.

Thematically, the works reflect the artist’s profound fascination with the starry sky, planets, and galaxies — the visible signs of the Invisible. While the film and photography captures the imagination, Mr. Yakovyna’s monotype becomes a state of soul, a fixation of subtle, unseen matter.

Each miniature is a silhouette, a motif that the viewer can now interpret through the lens of personal experience. These works should be observed like a starry sky — ever-changing, just as the monotype technique itself constantly transforms.

The exhibition “Cinematographic Allusions” invites you to immerse yourself in the worlds of Yulian Yakovyna — a man who loved, discovered, and felt beauty in everything with all his heart.

Welcome to the exhibition!
